Stepper Motor Driver

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC27200, UCC27201

can anybody suggest me what should be the Mosfet and mosfet driver if i want to design Stepper Motor Driver of 100V & more than 5A Stepper motor?

  • Hi Dhaval,

Is the 100V the peak voltage under all conditions, or the nominal voltage? If peak, a mosfet driver like the UCC27200, UCC27201 may do the job (4 are required). For FETs, the 100V VDS NexFETs are worth a look. I suggest you confirm with the NexFET Power MOSFETs forum after you decide which one may work for you.
  • Hi Rick,
100V are nominal voltage then ? what are the voltage range for HI and LI side input pins i mean if my controller is running on 5V or 3.3V will this device directly work or i have to put it through translator.
  • Hi Dhaval,

The absolute maximum voltage of the UCC27200/201 is 120VDC on the HS outputs. There is not much margin if you are using 100V nominal. It may work if you are careful to use voltage spike protection techniques, such as large bulk capacitance and surge suppression.

    The UCC27201 has TTL inputs.

I am not aware of other high voltage FET drivers. The AC/DC and Isolated DC/DC forum may have other ideas.
