DRV8802-Q1; setting of chopping current

Dear all,

【Question】

In following case, could you teach me your some concerns?

Could I use this device like this in the first place?

I selected resistor(ISENx) to set I(CHOP) ≒ 1.5A along Equation 1 at data sheet.

However, I found that I(CHOP) will exceed H-Bridge Output Current (max) with adding variations of V3P3OUT and resistor.

I found that I(CHOP) will be 1.632A(max). This value is larger than 1.6A (Output current MAX).

Best regards,

  • Hi Takao,

First of all please make sure the 1.632A is truely an expected chopping level and can be changed by tuning Vref and sense resistor, just making sure the current regulation is function normally.

Our MAX current spec just gives the consideration including thermal and temperature rising of the device. So running at slightly bigger current such as this 1.632A should be no problem if you can accept your thermal condition (Must < min OCP level). But this should be considered carefully with long term running or in the worst application condition.

I think if the torque of the motor is not a problem, we can set the current a bit lower than current value by changing the Vref or R sense. So that it also aligns with our MAX spec.

    Best regards,
