Startup Delay in DRV8302

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8302

Hi Fellow Members

I have been using DRV8302 for quite sometime. I recently changed my MOSFET to IRFS7734 (Qg=180nC, Typical). I noticed a startup delay of typical 1~2 sec. This startup delay occurs only when DRV8302 is switched on after being switched off for long time (1hr).

How to avoid this delay?? Any Suggestion/Solution will be helpful.

P.S: My Bootstrap capacitance value is 220nF. (If it is any help).

Thanks in Advance

Imthiaz

  • Hi Imthiaz,

Can you define the startup delay? Is it from EN_GATE to motor turning or something else?

Please check the capacitors around the device. The DVDD, AVDD, CP1/CP2 and GVDD voltages can affect startup.
  • Hi Rick

Startup Delay is the time difference between EN_GATE and Motor Turning.

Capacitors at DVDD, AVDD and GVDD are 2.2UF.

    Thanks

  • Hi Imthiaz,

Sorry, I was unclear about checking the capacitors. I meant to say please check the voltages at the AVDD, DVCC, and GVDD capacitors. If the voltage ramps on these regulators are delayed, this can affect startup.

Before checking the regulator voltages, please examine the nFAULT pin with respect to EN_GATE. If the nFAULT pin asserts and remains asserted longer than typically <10ms, this may provide an indication of a regulator problem.
