DRV10866: DRV10866

Part Number: DRV10866

Dear Support team

I have one question regarding DRV10866

The datasheet has very little information about the maximal and minimal frequency.

In this forum, I have out, that the range might be from 18Hz up to 680Hz.

We are planning to use the DRV10866 at 100% PWM and 5.5V.

Is the a guaranty, that speed never exceeds 680Hz?

How constant is this speed? Does each DRV10866 behave a bit different?

The datasheet has just some typical values, see 6.6 Typical Characteristics of DRV10866.

At which power supply is this measured?

At which duty cycle is this measured?

What I also miss is the tolerance and the thermic dependence.

Best regards,

Rolf

  • Hi Rolf,

Our experts have been contacted and should reply soon.
  • Hi Rolf,

If you are planning to use 5.5V 100% duty cycle, the maximum speed is limited by the motor specification rather than motor driver.
Under the same condition, you just have described, different RPMs are expected with load, Kt of motor , resistance, inductance and etc.

    Thanks,
    Seil
  • Hi Seil

I've tested now two different motors and they were running with different speeds, as expected.
Is there a formula to calculate the speed by the motor parameters?
How reproducible is the behavior of the DRV10866? How big is the tolerance of the speed when the same motor is used, but different DRV10866?
Is there a driver more suitable for such a application, where motor speed should be reproducible?

    Thanks
    Rolf
  • Rolf,

Without known exact operation condition, I can only guestimate, I would expect less than 3% speed variation with exact same motor under same load condition and temperature across many DRV10866.

Theoretically, you can estimate the speed but it is going to very difficult to measure moment of ineartia and friction torque.....

If you need speed control, you will need to measure frequency of FG pulse from DRV10866 and modulate PWM duty cycle.

    Thanks,
    Seil
