ISO5851EVM: ISO5851EVM with DC bus

Part Number: ISO5851EVM

Hi,

We have the following question from one of our customers:

“Can ISO5851EVM be used with a DC bus? If so, is it possible to control the voltage on a DC bus with one IGBT, similar to a DC brake chopper? “

Could you please assist?

Thank you in advance for your support.

Kind regards

Bogdan

  • Hi Bogdan,

What is the BUS Voltage and the load on it?

  • Bogdan,

The EVM can be used to drive IGBT depends on customer system configurations.
Do you know how customer wants to connect the EVM to the power stage?

  • Hi Guy's, In an effort to explain further. The DC bus with overspec'd DC capacitance is a common coupling point for both a 30kwp wind turbine and a 12 kwp solar array. All of which are high VDC (100 - 350 VDC). I'm trying to regulate the DC voltage to 3oo vdc after all inverters connected to the bus are generating at full A/C capacity. I was hoping to use the driver to read the dc voltage through reference voltage and in turn would create the IGBT signal to dissipate power through a resistive load maintaing or holding the DC voltage at 300VDC. A little like a Brake Chopper or a Dynamic Brake. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  • Hi,

The EVM would use a dc bus reference voltage to generate a signal to drive the IGBT which would in turn regulate/hold a DC bus voltage by a means of dissipating power through the IGBT and into a resistive load.

    Thanks in advance.
