DRV8881PEVM-CB s/w installation problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8881PEVM

Dear Experts,

I just received DRV8881P evaluation module, however I am failing to install the GUI.  After installing the application from ,DRV8881PEVM_installer.zip, I have the following message:

Cannot extract package

Failed to unzip the package file: C:\Users\MyName

I had unzipped everything into temp folder and insalled from there, I am nor sure what package it expects to see or what I am doing wrong.

I apologize for asking such a simple question, but I ran out of options.

Thanks,

  • Hi Vladimir,

Is there any additional information available, such as a detailed log after you received the message?

    Did the installation work properly?

During the installation, did you run into any problems?

  • Hi Rick,

    Thanks for responding over weekend!

I am installing on Win 10 64 bit and ran multiple install/uninstall cycles with the same result documented below.

    - Downloaded slvc629.zip and unpacked it into C:\Users\My Name\Downloads\slvc629

    o Resulted in:

     /slvc629

    • DRV8881PEVM Software Files

    o Application.zip

     Firmware (multiple project files)

    o GUI.zip

     DRV8881PEVM_installer

    • GUIComposerApp-v1.0.setup-win_2.0.3 - this is the installer

    • Install_image_DRV8881PEVM.zip

     DRV8881PEVM_installer.zip

    o USB driver.zip

    o DRV8881PEVM Firmware and GUI_1.0_manifest.html

    - Ran GUIComposerApp-v1.0.setup-win_2.0.3 directly from DRV8881PEVM_installer folder

    - Setup window:

    o Setup – DRV8881PEVM ==> Next

o License Agreement  Accepted license

    o Select Installation Folder:

     Application Directory

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments

    • Runtime Directory

    • C:\Users\Vladimir Gorelik\guicomposer\runtime

    • ==> Next

    • Setup ==> GUI Composer Runtime

o Download from web ==> next

     Downloded

     Installing

    Warning:

o Unable to install DRV8881PEVM in DRV881PEVM. Please view the log:

    C:/Users/My Name/AppData/Local/Temp/bitrock_installer.log for more details.

o For some reason AppData/ folder does not exist in Users/My Name/

    I hope you can help.

    Thanks,

    Vladimir

  • Hi Vladimir,

The GUI Composer experts have been contacted. You should hear from them soon.
  • Hi Rick,

Thanks for forwarding my question to the GUI team.  However, I still haven't heard from them.  I assume that this is a s/w problem.  Can you advise if should break the connection with on-board processor by removing R3 and R4 from eval board and developing an FPGA application to turn the motor?  This is a significant undertaking and I would prefer to have the opportunity to evaluate the chip using GUI, but if this is the only option, than be it.

    Thanks,

    Vlad

  • Hi Vladimir,

Let me ping the team again.

Would you please load the log file C:/Users/My Name/AppData/Local/Temp/bitrock_installer.log ? This will expedite the response.
  • Hi Rick,

Part of the problem is that AppData directory is missing from C:/Users/My Name, see screenshot:

    Thanks,
    Vladimir
  • Hi Vlad,

Can you please open an explorer window and in the path bar type in %TEMP%. It will take you to your temporary directory where you will find bitrock*.log files. Can you attach them here please?

    Thanks,

    Danish

  • Hi Danish,

Attached are two log files.  bitrock_installer.log  time stamped seven minutes prior bitrock_installer_7576.log.  I hope you can help.

    Thanks,

    Vlad

  • Hi Vlad,
    Can you try the following:
Remove the _tmp folder from C:\Users\Vladimir Gorelik\guicomposer\runtime\gcruntime.v2\ if it exists.
Run the GUIComposerApp-v1.0.setup-win_2.0.3 directly from DRV8881PEVM_installer folder. This should not install the gui composer run time again, and hopefully complete your installation correctly. It looks like the runtime failed to install some drivers, which we can do later.
    Danish
  • Hi Danish,

    Still no luck..

There is no Temp folder in \gcruntime.v2.  I ran GUIComposerApp-v1.0.setup-win_2.0.3 directly from DRV8881PEVM_installer folder and get the same message:

    Cannot extract package

Failed to unzip the package file: C:\Users\Vladimir.

Interestingly, Users\Vladimir directory should have been Users\Vladimir Gorelik instead.  I wonder if installer is confused by space in directory name...

Attached is the latest log file.

    Line 21 shows error:

Unknown error while running C:\Users\Vladimir Gorelik\Downloads\slvc629\DRV8881PEVM Software Files\GUI\DRV8881PEVM_installer\Install_image_DRV8881PEVM.zip --mode unattended --unattendedmodeui minimal --prefix "C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments" --workspace "C:\Users\Vladimir Gorelik\guicomposer\runtime/gcruntime.v2"

    Thanks,

    Vladimir

  • Hi Vlad,

You're probably hitting a bug in the installer - could you try extracting the downloaded slvc629.zip into a folder without a space, e.g. c:\temp and try it from there? I'm sorry for the trouble, you're running a very old version of the installer.

    Danish

  • Fixed.

    - Deleted all temp# files - quite a few of them were created after multiple install/uninstall,

    - Unzipped into a folder that does not contain spaces in its name.  This is odd as installer creates space-containing folders.

Now I can control the motor
