DRV8801A-Q1: Input Current during Short Circuit on output

Part Number: DRV8801A-Q1

Hello,

I want to know what will be the current at input during the output is short circuited for 3A current.

Thank you

  • Hi Srikanth,

At 3A, the overcurrent may not activate. The specification is that the overcurrent circuit will activate as low as 3A, but it could be higher.

How and where are you measuring the current at the input (scope/dmm/power supply reading, at the power supply or between the bulk cap and the device)?
Assuming the overcurrent circuit activates, you should see a current spike from 0A to the overcurrent trigger point followed by 0.5 to 3ms of no current.

This cycle will repeat. A DMM or power supply will provide average current. The average value will depend on the time it takes to reach the overcurrent level, the overcurrent retry time, and the current remaining at the end of the retry time.
