TIDA-00643: Fast reversable operation?

Hi, 

I am wondering if the TIDA-00643 is capable of rapidly and smoothly reversing the direction of rotation of the motor/propeller? Most traditional drone ESC "hang" for a few hundreds of msec while crossing zero RPM due to the limited feedback from back EMF at these rotation speed. The current sensing in this ESC should be able to prevent that behaviour and improve the time required to reverse the direction of rotation, when compared to traditional ESC, but the documentation of this ESC only mention "highly efficient and high power BLDC motor system". Can someone confirm if this ESC is capable of rapidly reversing the direction of rotation of a motor?

  • Hi Alexis,

    It depends what requirements you have for "fast" and "smooth." This will be largely dependent on the PI tuning in the TMS320F28027F and the motor you use. The TMS320F28027F uses TI's InstaSPIN-FOC firmware. You should be able to customize this to achieve the performance you need. I'm including the C2000 team for further comments.

  • Yes, the FAST observer used tracks near zero (not at zero) and through zero better than any sensorless technique. This particular performance, as well as acceleration capability and dynamic response is far superior to those of standard ESCs, hence why it is used in many high end drones and high performance ESCs.
