Dears,

Our customer want to debug the MSP430 integrated in DRV2605LEVM-MD. The user's guide shows that a MSP-FET430UIF Hardware Debugging Interface and a MSP-JTAG2SBW Adapter are necessary. I can find MSP-FET430UIF on our website. But I could't find where could buy MSP-JTAG2SBW. I want to know if this adapter could sell independently? and if the MSP-FET could replace MSP-FET430UIF?

Hi Ricardo,

I am looking into where we can find the JTAG2SBW board. I am not sure if these are still supported, but we will find you a solution. There is a schematic of the design here. It looks like this board is just mapping a few specific signals from the MSP-FET430UIF to the EVM.

Hi Ricardo,

I just spoke with a colleague, and you can follow the instructions in the DRV2605LEVM-CT user guide, section 6. The first bullet point in section 1 has an alternative method for programming using a MSP430 LaunchPad.
I'm sorry that we have not updated this section in the DRV2605LEVM-MD user guide, but the JTAG2SBW board is no longer available.

Thanks for you help. Using MSP430 LaunchPad to debug DRV2605LEVM-MD can be a good alternative method.

Hi Kelly,

I know MSP430 have various types. The MCU on DRV2605LEVM-MD is MSP430F5510. Can I use a MSP430G2X like MSP-EXP430G2 LaunchPad to debug MSP430F5510? Or I just could use a MSP430F5X to debug MSP430F5510? If so. Which LaunchPad I need choose?

Hi Ricardo,

After discussing this with a MSP430 colleague, I think we have found the solution. However, I need some time to test this in the lab for confirmation.

You should be able to use the MSP-EXP430F5529LP, MSP-FET, or MSP-FET430UIF. You just need to make the appropriate connections found in Figure 2-3 of the MSP Hardware Tool’s User’s Guide. This will require female to male jumper wires.

The MSP-EXP430G2 Launchpad will not work with the MSP430F5510.

Hi Ricardo,

I have confirmed that the debugging process works using the MSP-FET430UIF and CCS 7.3. A few things to point out.
1. You will need to go into the project setting, click on MSP430 Linker and then File Path Extensions and remove "ibmath.a" This file is included in CCS now.
2. For the JTAG to SBW connection, the EVM board has the 47kOhm pullup resistor and 47pF cap to ground for the TDO/TDI connection. You only need to make the direct connection from the JTAG header to the SBW pin; no external circuitry is required. Also make the GND and TDK connections directly.
