Dear Sir,

How to reduce motor peak current?

The peak value of the attached waveform CH1 is too high to exceed the maximum motor current specification of 1.9A.

And customers worry that excessive motor peak current may affect input power.

Note:

1. DRV8833 was connected in parallel ( datasheet Figure 7. Parallel Mode )

2. attached waveform CH1 is motor currrent ; CH2 is IN2 Voltage ; CH3 is IN1 Voltage ; CH4 is OUT1 Voltage

Hi Ronald,

Can you zoom in and measure the current at startup?
Is there a capacitor across the motor outputs?

If there is a capacitor, this could be the reason for these current spikes. A possible solution is to add an inductor or ferrite bead between the output and motor to limit the inrush current.

Thank you for your help.
Your suggestion I think is very practical.

1.Add an inductor or ferrite bead between the output and motor to limit the inrush current.
2.Remove output cap

None of the above can solve the surge current problem.
I suggest that customers use the EVM version of the experiment to confirm whether there is the same phenomenon.(I can't get same motor)
Customer has not responded to my results.
