SN754410: SN754410 live time

Part Number: SN754410
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8834, DRV8833, DRV8832

Hello,

I have a question regarding the quadruple half-H driver SN754410.
I have looked that this driver is old but it is active again.

Do you suggest me to use it inside a new project under developement now?
This project will have a 10 years life time.

Can you please suggest me some alternative components?

I wait your reply.
Thank you very much for your support.

Best Regards
Riccardo Molinari

  • Hi Riccardo,

Although you can use the SN754410 in your new project, we have devices with additional features such as overcurrent, undervoltage, and better thermal performance.

Please provide your voltage, current, and application requirements. We can then suggest a more recent device.
  • Hi Rick,

thank you very much for your kind reply.
My idea is to use the SN754410 driver to manage 2 small DC motor, please look the attached circuit.

The voltage is 5V and the maximum current 1A for every motors.
I wait your reply and your suggestion about a more recent devices.

If you need other informations do not hesitate to contact me.

    Best Regards
    Riccardo

  • Hi Riccardo,

Please consider the DRV8833 and DRV8834. Both of these devices can be configured like the SN754410, but have additional features like overcurrent and undervoltage protection. The DRV8833 has a similar interface to the SN754410 while the DRV8834 can be configured for a PH/EN interface.

The xISEN pins can be connect to GND to disable the current regulation, or you can limit the current during startup using the xISEN pins.
Both devices are available in a HTSSOP or VQFN package with thermal pad for optimal thermal performance.
An EVM is available for both devices also.

Another device to consider is two DRV8832 which will adjust the duty cycle to control the motor speed over varying voltages.
  • Hi Rick,

thank you very much for your complete indications.

Best Regards and Have a nice day
    Riccardo
