DRV2625EVM-CT: Connect to external I2C Master

Part Number: DRV2625EVM-CT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS5A12301E, DRV2625

The datasheet says that the J4 jumper allows me to connect to the I2C bus for "Debug/Monitor or Advanced Operations." I understand how I can easily use these pins to monitor the bus, but what are the Advanced Operations.

What I want to do is attach my MCU here as the I2C Master. How can I do this if the onboard MCU is already the Master?

  • Hi Jackson,

You can connect an external I2C source to J4, as long as it is referenced to the same potential (3.3V).
Although this EVM is mainly purposed to be controlled by on-board MSP through Haptic Control Console software, thus the on-board actuator (ERM/LRA) is selected through TS5A12301E switch, which is controlled by MSP. If you're using an external actuator this is not relevant.

If you want to test DRV2625 on some other applications you can also consider using the breakout board: www.ti.com/.../drv2625evm-mini
