DRV8801A-Q1: supply voltage, no power,

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8801A-Q1

Hi~

During the production, customer want to test motor without board power supplied.

It means, after SMD, they just want to test motor by supplying +12V at OUTA/OUTB without supplying power at VBB.

Absolute max rating looks no problem, but should I concern other things? surge, damage internal something?

Let me have your opinion if has no problem or not.

Thanks.

  • Hi Jin-Suk,

It is difficult to predict if there is a problem. Care should be taken when trying this the first time.

When the motor is powered, the 12V will pass through the body diode to VBB. If VBB is used to power the remainder of the board, then the DRV8801A-Q1 could become operational.

Is it possible to test the motor using continuity, or a voltage of ~4.5V? This would keep the DRV8801A-Q1 in undervoltage lockout.
