DRV8703D-Q1: drv8703

Part Number: DRV8703D-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8873

what is the advantage and inconvinent for using a full-bridge or two of a half-bridge

  • Mdioud:

DRV8703D-Q1 is only a half-bridge gate driver, no full-bridge mode.

To comparing a full-bridge vs two of a half-bridge, please check a full-bridge part datasheet, such as: DRV8873...
    1. You can compare the table 6 "Independent Mode Truth Table" with table 5 and 4.
    2. Think about how to do the PWM control with two of a half-bridge (DRV8873's independent mode setting).
  • my question was the difference between drivers with 2 half bridge that work like a full bridge and a full bridge, look at those device DRV 8711(full bridge) and DRV8873(2 half bridge).

    many thanks

  • Hi Mdioud,

Typically, the main difference is two half bridge configuration does not regulate the current automatically. Also the two half bridge configuration can control two separate loads.

Using the DRV8873 as an example for both:

    1) In the full bridge configuration, the current can be regulated by monitoring the current through the load. When the current reaches the set level, current regulation is automatically activated (Figure 13 of the DRV8873 datasheet). Both outputs are set high to re-circulate the current (Path 2 in Figure 10).

    2) In the 2x half bridge configuration, this current regulation scheme cannot be automatically activated because the load configuration is unknown.
  • yeah i understand now

    thank you for your help
