Hi,

I am trying to driver the Faulhaber 012BSL burshless DC motor using the TI 10983Q1 motor driver (via I2C from a microcontroller) .

I also have a 10983 evaluation board and connected the motor (with correct phase ) . However the motor spin is not reliable - it doesn't spin for all motor speed values (50 seems to work for the given range 0-511 , other values don't start the spin. I tired to get some values from the datasheet, however I don't see all the values that the TI 10983 Q1 expects. Do you have the register values that needs to be configured to driver this motor reliably ? I have attached the datasheet for the same.

Hey Bala,

Please find attached conservative settings. Images of the settings are also below.

You need to update the BEMF constant (Kt) with the one for your motor in mV/Hz. Datasheet gives BEMF constant in 0.554 mV/rpm, so to convert to mV/HZ, do 0.554 mV/rpm*120/#OfMotorPoles . Equation can be derived from https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/synchronous-motor-frequency-speed-d_649.html.

Hi Sanmesh,
Thanks for the info. I still need to work out the BEMF , cant figure out the no. of poles from the datsheet .
BTW my GUI parameters are slightly different to the sanpshots you uploaded. Where can I find the latest version ?

1) There is a method to find the no. of poles in the DRV10983-q1 tuning guide www.ti.com/.../slvuav9.pdf . I dont think you need to the # of poles to calculated BEMF though.
2)I dont know what you mean by "BTW my GUI parameters are slightly different to the sanpshots you uploaded. Where can I find the latest version ? ". The gui parameter snapshots are one I sent. You can match your gui to the same configuration manually if you want to change it to that.
