DRV201: Using DRV201 to manually control DC-iris

Part Number: DRV201

Hello

I have lens assembly with 8 pins DC Iris. The pins are the following: 2 Drive pins, 2 Control pins, 2 Bias pins and 2 Damping pins. I want to manually control the DC-iris using all these pins or just part of them.

My target is that once the dc iris is powered I will be able to control its opening manually by turning a potentiometer.

Can I use the DRV201 for this target and if I can, then what is will be the control circuit diagram?

Thanks,

Eli

  • Hi Eli,

The DRV201 requires an I2C interface for control, and does not appear to meet your requirements without a mcu.

Assuming you have a mcu that can read a voltage from the potentiometer, the DRV201EVM can be connected to it for evaluation.
  • Hi Rick

I am trying to implement a dc iris control circuit, so I will be able to control it's current (dc iris is controlled by galvanometer). I will use an mcu for output voltage and a potentiometer.
Is there an easy way to implement this circuit using DRV201?

    Thanks
    Eli
  • Hi Eli,

Your question is difficult to answer without specifics.

After reading the datasheet, do you have a specific question regarding the operation of the DRV201?
  • Hi Rick

I read at the datasheet that this device can be used for iris control. I have a standard 8 pins iris with the following pinout:

Unfortunately I am not able to control this iris manually - I want to open and close it with a potentiometer. Can I use DRV201 for this reason and if i can, then what will be the circuit?

    Kindly

    Eli

  • Hi Eli,

Without knowing how the 8 pins of the lens assembly are used, it is difficult to say the DRV201 can be used.

The DRV201 ISINK and ISOURCE pins may match DRIVE- and DRIVE+. Operation of the other pairs (CONT-/+, HALL-/+, and BIAS-/+) are unknown.

FYI -- The DRV201EVM includes a GUI and USB to I2C converter to control the DRV201.
