DRV8837: DRV883x OUTx Pin Maximum Values

Part Number: DRV8837

Hi,

I am looking into the OUTx pin maximum values for customer design. Could you please provide some details about the following?

1. OUTx pin maximum voltages. I assume this would be the same as VM since the low-side FET Vds = VM when high-side FET is on.

2. Typical forward bias voltage threshold of the body-diode in FETs.

Thanks for your help!

Peiheng.

  • Peiheng,

    1. Yes. OUTx pin maximum voltage rating is same as VM.

    2. Typically, the forward bias voltage threshold of the body-diode in FETs would be 0.7V~1.1V . This is my opinion without testing DRV8837. But, I want to know how do you want to use this number?

  • Wang,

I am trying to understand the impact of motor coasting while power lost on VM and Vcc.

A negative voltage presenting on OUTx since body diode is conducted. The gate driver and OCP circuitry have designed to withstand such negative potential, and no damage as long as the diode current / temp kept under limits, right?

    Peiheng.

  • Peiheng,

That is right: The gate driver and OCP circuitry have designed to withstand such negative potential, and no damage as long as the diode current / temp kept under limits.
