BOOSTXL-DRV8304H: the change of regulator

Part Number: BOOSTXL-DRV8304H
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8304

Hello.

I want to confirm about the use the evaluation board, "BOOSTXL-DRV8304H".

I'm going to change 3.3V regulator to 5V regulator because external hall sensor is 5V required.

Are there any problems ?  If there are points I should be careful about, please tell me .

Thank you

  • Syuhei,

The input pins of the DRV8304 can handle 5V input but you will need to change some things on the EVM:

    1. The IDRIVE and VDS pins are expecting voltage dividers based on DVDD (3.3V) so you would need to scale these resistors appropriately if you plan to use the pull-up to DVDD option.
    2. The on board LEDs are expecting 3.3V so you may need to increase their current limiting resistors if increasing their supply to 5V.
    3. The CSA input (VREF) will need to be recalibrated for the increased input.
    4. R42 will need to be scaled for the increased voltage so that the MCU will recognize the board correctly.

Overall I think it may be easier to use different hall sensors or add some level shifting in between the board and hall sensors.

    Regards,
