DRV8874-Q1EVM: MSP430FR2100 MCU programming

Hi,

I have an DRV8874-Q1EVM and it works great out of the box. There is a MCU on the same board and a programming port on one side of the board. I have tried to flash the MCU MSP430FR2100, with an USB eZ430-F2013 Development Tool (that i have been redirected to via the PDF/datasheet), but seems not be compatible. Could you please explain me how to flash the MSP430FR2100 on the DRV8874-Q1EVM.

Hi Werner,

If you read section 2 of the EVM user's guide, it mentions that the MCU on the EVM is programmed using the on-board eZ-FET emulator on the MSP430FR5969 LaunchPad. The link provided in the user's guide is not correct. I apologize for that.

Here are step-by-step instructions on how to flash the MCU on the EVM:

Connect the MSP430FR5969 lauchpad to your computer via USB.
Connect the DRV8874-Q1EVM to the MSP430FR5969 via the J21 connector on the launchpad and J6 connector on the EVM. You'll need to solder a connector (850-10-050-20- 001000) to J21. Solder the connector between pins labeled "V+" and "GND" as shown in the picture below:
Flash the firmware to the MCU. Make sure to select the MSP430FR2100 as the target device. If R11 is populated on the EVM, there is no need to supply power to the EVM when flashing the firmware. The "V+" pin of the J21 connector provides the power to the MCU on the EVM.

Thank you very much. Is it also possible to use MSP-EXP430FR2311 at J101 pins 1,3,11,13 ?

Then i use some wires and solder them between the EVM and J101 on the MSP-EXP430FR2311

Werner,

You can use the MSP-EXP430FR2311 but connect it to pin 1,3,9,13. The MSP430FR2100 has a maximum recommended VCC voltage of 3.6V. So use the 3.3V pin on J101 instead of the 5V pin.
