DRV8884EVM: IC Thermal Condition Comparison between DRV8884/5/6 EVM

Part Number: DRV8884EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8884, DRV8885, DRV8886

Hello team,

I got the question from the customer about the DRV8884/5/6 thermal measurement result on EVM.

They measured all that device with the same condition & found that there are little bit differences.

DRV8884: +14.6℃ / DRV8885: +20.6℃ / DRV8886: +14.8℃

Based on the datasheet thermal information on the junction is that DRV8884 & DRV8885 are same, DRV8886 is lower than both.

Ron(HS+LS) is the lager in order of DRV8884/5/6. Therefore they estimated the result would be larger in order of DRV8884/5/6.

Could you please advice us why we see those differences?

The EVM supposes to be the same layout but the discrete components tolerant may make this differences?

Thank you for your support in advance.

  • Kitajima-san,

What is the room temperature when they test the three EVMs? Do they add load on the output? If they don't add the load, the temperature is not related to FET Rds_on.

"They measured all that device with the same condition" Vin; Iout; ambient tempature… if there is waveform to show the same condition, it could speed up the debugging time.

  • Hi Wang-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

I sent the e-mail directly based on your question, so please move the main correspondence to there.
