DRV10983EVM: Speed Command and Speedcommand Buffer in GUI show strange values

Part Number: DRV10983EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV10983-Q1

Hi,

I am using 15 DRV10983EMVs for several month.

Some of them started to show a strange behavior. When changing the input signal (either analog or via the GUI) the "Speed command" value in the GUI and the "Speed command Buffer" are not the same "even closed loop accelerate" is in Infinite.

The speed command buffer value is staying for minutes at the same level, when I lower the input signal. input increases are accepted faster but als not infinite.

  • Hi Philipp,

Thanks for posting your question in MD forum. I already responded to this via email but wanted to repost so that this can help other E2E users as well.

The speed command % may not always be equal to the speed command buffer % because the DRV10983-Q1 device has the Anti Voltage Surge function, the acceleration current-limit function, and the closed-loop accelerate function to optimize the control performance. These functions can limit the speed command buffer, which affects the output amplitude. From the screenshot it looks like AVS is active and causing this type of behavior where the speed command buffer is greater than speed command. If the speed command suddenly drops such that the BEMF voltage generated by the motor is greater than the voltage that is applied to the motor, then the mechanical energy of the motor is returned to the power supply and the Vcc voltage surges. The mechanical AVS function works to prevent this from happening. The device buffers the speed command value and limits the resulting output voltage so that it is not less than the BEMF voltage of the motor.

Can you disable AVS function to see if the speed command equals speed command buffer?

    Regards,

    Vishnu.
