DRV8824: OCP event.

Hi team,

I'd like to know about the OCP event.

If an OCP occurs and a Fault is asserted, will the device work if I reboot the device?
I think this requires nRESET.
However, the datasheet states as follows.
"The device remains disabled until either nRESET pin is applied, or VMx is removed and re-applied."

Sincerely.
Kengo.

  • Hi Kengo,

When an  OCP fault is triggered, nFAULT will drop low and the outputs will be disable until either nRESET signal is applied or VMx is toggled (turn off and then on). Effectively, both options will reboot the device clearing the OCP fault and re-enabling the outputs.

I hope this answers your question.

  • Hi Pablo,

Thank you for your quick reply.

After the nFault was asserted, there was no output even when the power was turned off and on again.
    Why is this?
    However, it returned with nRESET.

    Sincerely.
    Kengo.

  • Hi Kengo,

Toggling VMx ON and OFF should clear the OCP fault unless the output current is still above I_OCP when the device is powered back ON. The device needs to be OFF for some time to allow all the internal circuitry to fully turn off before turning the power back ON.

How are you causing the OCP fault? Are you shorting the outputs to GND or VM?

How do you have the power connected to VMx? do you have the same power supply for VMA and VMB?
