DRV8601: Lowest idle current

Part Number: DRV8601
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV2605, , DRV2625

Hi team,

A customer is looking for a haptic driver with lowest possible energy consumption. In their application the driver will be off almost all the time, so standby/shutdown consumption is key for them.

Application Report SLOA194 suggests DRV2605 has lowest stand-by current. But DRV8601 has lower shutdown current. So if the driver is shutdown when not in use, it looks like the latter would consume less. What do you suggest?

Thank you,

Franz

  • Hi, Franz,

This would depend if the customer requires of a single hardware controlled haptics driver or an I2C interface. I think the DRV2605 requires of a higher current consumption due to the I2C lines.

In case the customer requires of I2C interface, I would recommend the DRV2625 instead of the DRV2605. It has a lower shutdown and standby current consumption. The DRV8601 is a good option as a hardware interface device.

    Best regards,
