DRV8705-Q1: Overcurrent calculation

Part Number: DRV8705-Q1

Hi

The VDS pin is connected to the 100K resistance pulldown, and the corresponding VDS set is Level3.

So what is the Overcurrent of the external MOS tube at this time? How does this VDS correspond to an overcurrent?Thank you very much!

  • Hi Nea,

Thank you for posting to the forum.

The actual overcurrent (OCP) limit based on the VDS selected and will depend on the RDSon of the chosen external FET. For example, if the RDSon of the FET is 100mΩ and the VDS threshold is 0.2V, the overcurrent limit will be approximately equal to 2-A (0.2V/100mΩ). The reason for this is that as current increases in the load, the VDS voltage of the FET that is enabled will increase. Once the VDS reaches the threshold set in the driver for longer than the OCP deglitch time, an OCP fault will be triggered.

I hope this clears any confusion. I suggest reading this app-note to learn more about our smart gate technology.
