About TPIC2050/2060 – Revision number register(REG 7E)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPIC2050, TPIC2060A

Hello,

Regarding to TPIC2050 and 2060, I have some question.

My customer will need to check their target board and it has two deference device (TPIC2050 and 2060) on each board.

Due to judge each device(2050 or 2060) on board by their external test equipment, they will use register 0x07E (8-Bit Control Register for Version).

(Question)

(1) Will it be available for judgement each device?

(2) Do you have any idea other than above?

  • Hi Tao_2199,

    Our experts have been notified and should reply soon.
  • Hello Tao_2199,

    As long as the test equipment can communicate with the TPIC2050 or TPIC2060A over SPI, it can read register 0x7E. Is the customer concerned that it won't?

  • Hello James,

    Thank you for reply.

    They are asking whether register 0x07E(revision No.) can be used for the unique number( like a chip ID).

    For example, these number are assume following.

    TPIC2050 : register 0x7E(revision No.) -> 0x02

    TPIC2060 : register 0x7E(revision No.) -> 0x03

    If these number are different, they think that their external test equipment will be can judge each device by register 0x7E.

    Or is there the chip ID register (unique number) on these devices?

    Also do you have any idea other than above?

  • The version registers only display the revision of silicon for that particular device. It is possible that the version numbers are different, and you could use them to identify each device. However, it is also possible that in a future silicon update those numbers would become the same again.

    I am not sure what the values in those registers are, and I won't be able to test them on my bench until next week.

    Usually the TPIC20xx devices are paired with a processor on each system. Is there a processor on your test boards? For your system test program, I recommend putting some kind of identification number into the firmware of the processor for each of your systems. Use your test hardware to communicate with the processor to determine which system is being tested.
