DRV3205EVM: Finding software and documentation for the Evaluation Module

Part Number: DRV3205EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV3205-Q1, DRV8332-HT

To whom may it concern,

Recently, I have purchased the DRV3205EVM module from the Texas Instruments web store. However, I cannot find the evaluation software (library and GUI) for this module, both in the arrived package and online. The user manual available online contains information that I did not find too helpful.

Is it possible if I could obtain example code for the Hercules Launchpad as a Code Composer Studio file, along side with any libraries and GUI, as well as any in-depth documentation on the DRV3205 Evaluation Module? That would be incredibly helpful for accelerating the development of evaluating this driver.

Thank you very much for your help and concern,

  • Hi Jae,

Sorry for the delayed response. Our expert has been contacted and should respond by Monday.
  • Hi Jae,

The DRV3205-Q1 is designed and intended for our customers that are developing functional safety automotive applications. As you may be aware, these are very specialized applications with advanced non-disclosure agreements and restrictions. As such, the full documentation/GUI/firmware for this EVM are restricted behind a TI NDA.

Would you be able to share some information about the application you are developing for? If you can let me know what the key features you're looking for in a gate driver are, I'd be happy to help find a part better suited to your needs. You mentioned that you've already purchased a DRV3205 EVM, but if we can find a more suitable part, we can swap out for the EVM for that part instead.

    Thanks,
    Garrett
  • Dear Garrett,

I am looking into reliable sensored brushless motor drivers for space applications, which has an extended temperature range, protection systems, etc.
I have looked into the DRV8332-HT, but since it did not have an evaluation module, I ended up purchasing the DRV3205. If you have any suggestions for other parts (as I did not see any space-rated parts for brushless motor drivers) or for the DRV3205, it would be great if you could let me know as quickly as possible.

    Thank you again for time,
    Jae
  • Hi Jae,

Have you considered the DRV8305NE for your application? It is a grade 0 qualified automotive device (-40C to 150C ambient), so it's specified operating range actually exceeds that of the DRV3205. We don't have an EVM specifically featuring the grade 0 version, but for evaluation you could use the grade one version, as the functionality aside from the overtemperature shutdown should be the same.

    Thanks,
    Garrett
