HAPTICS-CONSOLE: No output with WaveformBuilder condition

Part Number: HAPTICS-CONSOLE
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY

Hi Ivan-san,

Thanks for the answer.

Firmware version was v1.3, so I tried to update firmware of MSP430 in DRV2510EVM but failed at SCAN DEVICE phase "NO BSL DEVICE FOUND".

I found USB2ANY Setup Instructions in SLOU502A, but it didn't  work for DRV2510EVM update.

I suppose MSP430-FET430UIF to update DRV2510EVM, but no further description both in  SLOU502A nor SLOU449.

Could you provide instruction to update DRV2510EVM firmware?

Best regards,

  • Hi Nobuo,

My colleague is going to help you with this. He first needs to make some testing, so He will provide you some feedback at a couple of days.

  • Hi Fujihara-san,

There are some instructions on the Firmware Updater tool. You should disconnect the EVM, press and hold the BSL button on the board and plug it again. You should not release BSL button until all the update procedure is finished.

  • Hi Ivan-san,

I tried it several times, but never succeeded to find BSL device with that method.

Could you confirm if you can find BSL device in your environment?

    Best regards,

  • Hi Team,

I could not update MSP430 firmware with indicated sequence.
Could you provide information to update firmware asap?

    Best regards,
  • Fujihara-san,

I can confirm that this procedure should work. Do you have more than one board available for testing? Have you tried with a different board?
If you don't have another board, could you please order another one, perhaps this is a defective board. If that's the case we can try to help you to return it.

  • Ivan-san,

    Thanks for the confirmation.
I will try with another EVM after purchasing it, though my EMV looks operating correctly other than re-program functionality.

May I confirm required environment for firmware update again?
    - PC and Hpatics Control Console
    - EVM and USB cable
We don't need any equipment/hardware other than above?

    Best regards,
    Nobuo Fujihara
  • Fujihara-san,

I thought that the EVM was not working correctly and that was the reason you wanted to update the firmware. Thanks for clarify.
Regarding the required environment, that is correct, no other equipment is needed to update the firmware on this EVM.
You can either use HCC to open the firmware updater or you can also download it from the link provided in this previous post: e2e.ti.com/.../2536857
Once you download the zip file inside you'll find a folder with updated firmware versions of all devices.

  • Hi Ivan-san,

Thanks a lot for your support.

Could you also check if below step is correct?

    =====================================================
    Step1: Disconnect USB from EVM
Step2: Keep pressing “BSL” button until Step8
Step3: Connect USB cable and check if EVM is powered
Step4: Start Haptic Control Console GUI
    Step5: Select “Help”->”Firmware Update”
    Step6: Press “Scan Device” button
Step7: GUI will find the Device
Step8: Press “Open FW” and select latest Firmware version.
    =====================================================

Before step5, do we connect to EVM by pressing “Connect” button?

    Best regards,
    Nobuo Fujihara
  • Fujihara-san,

The steps are correct, I would only clarify that BSL button must be pressed all the time until the firmware update process is completed (after clicking on Update button).
Also you can have HCC GUI open as well as Firmware Update tool, and then connect the EVM with BSL button pressed.

Regarding step 5, you should not press Connect button.

  • Hi Ivan-san,

Thanks a lot for your support.

I could update firmware by using another USB port of PC, with confirmed firmware update sequence.

    Thanks again.
