DRV8872: drv8872 output current

Part Number: DRV8872

Hi,

Iocp is  3.7A to 6.4A,

Why output cureent max 3.5A less than Iocp?

Why Iocp does not  limit 3.5A or 3.4A to protect IC?

best regards,

Simen

  • Hi Simen,

Many devices are rated for less than the overcurrent protection. This provides margin between the operating current maximum and the point the overcurrent protection activates.

The overcurrent protection circuit is used for protection against unexpected events, like the output shorted to power or ground.
