DRV8704: Predriver Fault

Part Number: DRV8704

Hello,

Our customer use the DRV8704, have a question about PDF function.

It is mentioned " If excessive current is detected ...... " on the DS.

How much is the value of  excessive current?

Best Regards,

Naoki Aoyama

  • Hi Aoyama-san,

How the PDF function works is as follows:

          1. We monitor the external FET’s Vgs during on and off. We have an analog comparator to detect the voltage to see if the Vgs over or under 1V.

          2. If predriver is to command the external FET to on, then after 2.2us, we will look the comparator output, if output is high, then no fault, otherwise flag a fault. The 2.2us time is fixed.

          3. If predriver is to command the external FET to off, then after 2.2us, we will look the comparator output, if output is low, then no fault, otherwise flag a fault. The 2.2us time is fixed.

  • Hi Hector,

    Thank you for your reply.
I understood the working of the function.

    Thanks,
