DRV8353RH-EVM: DRV8353RH-EVM - MAX voltage?

Part Number: DRV8353RH-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8353R

Dear Sirs,

Regarding DRV8353RH-EVM- I have little confusion about the maximum voltage that this Evaluation Module can safely carry.

The Gate Driver in the list is rated 102 V, in the description is 100 V and the maximum voltage for the EVM is 95 V.

Can this EVM safely work with 100.8 V (24S Li-ion battery pack ) or do I need another driver suitable for this voltage?

Can you recommend one.

Best Regards

Miroslav Malev

  • Miroslav,

Per the datasheet, 102V is the Absolute Max of the part, this is not the recommended voltage range.

The recommended supply voltages are listed in the Recommended Operating Conditions table: VM is 75V max, VDRAIN is 100V max.

The EVM has 95V max because of the VBUCK that is built into the DRV8353R. If this is not used, then VM has a max of 75V.

I would not recommend the 100.8V battery pack. This violates the EVM spec and also does not give any voltage head-room for transient spikes or similar when the motor is under load or brakes.

Typically we recommend ~20% head-room, meaning this board should be used with 18S batteries or less.
