Hello at TI,

We are among other motor drivers considering DRV8873 and 74 for a DC brushed motor driver design. 

We are however unsure of the differences of those. They seem to have the same functions. 

Can you help us clarify which parameters we should look at specifically to choose between them? In other words: When (or in what situation) is one recommended compared to the other?

Also, are they both expected to be on the marked for +5 years? 

When is 74 in full production?

    • The DRV8873 also has variable slew rate.

    Finding out which device to recommend depends on your application needs. Can you answer the following questions:

    • What is the expected VM voltage of the stepper motor driver? 
    • What is the expected Voltage rating and current rating of motor?
    • What features are required? (SPI, Open-load detection, package size restrictions, etc.)
    • Is an industrial or automotive stepper motor driver needed?
