DRV10974: Proposal Request

Part Number: DRV10974
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV10987

Hi team,

My customer considered to use DRV10974 but Rm of their motor is 30Ω.

Could you please propose recommended device for following specs?

  • Drive Current: < 43mA
  • Supply Voltage: 6.8V
  • Speed: > 2400rpm
  • Rm: 30Ω
  • Simple I/O control is preferable.

Best regards,

Shota Mago

  • Hello Shota Mago,

Can you confirm that the motor resistance measured from phase to phase is 30ohms? Typically, the phase to phase resistance divided by 2, so if the phase to phase motor resistance is 30ohms, then the phase to center tap resistance would be 15ohms, which would satisfy the recommended application range.

With that said, using a motor outside the recommended application range does not mean that the motor will not spin. This just means we do not have high confidence that the motor will satisfy every condition. I encourage you evaluate the performance and see if there are problems.

If the DRV10974 doesn't work, the only other device we have is the DRV10987 with integrated control and power FETs. However, it suffers the same resistance range as the 974, but it has a higher range of configuration, which is makes the motor more likely to spin but doesn't satisfy the "simple IO control" requirement.

    Best,

    -Cole
