DRV8350: and DRV8301, transients above 60V

Part Number: DRV8350
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8301, , TL783

With the DRV8301, we are trying a new exercise mode where the BEMF exceeds the 60V limit of the part and blows this IC. The load dump circuit is tuned for a WC tolerance to trip around 61V and can't protect this part for short transients. We're looking to the DRV8350 as a potential solution.

The block diagram of the DRV8301 is different than the DRV8350. If we disable the over current protection, will the DRV8350 work with a say 12V input? Or will PVDD back drive when the highside FET is ON.

If it won't work, what protection can you recommend for the PVDD1 input? A Zener diode would be too large and Vzmin_max is wide.  I think an LDO would work, like the TL783 but I think this part needs a min output current of 15mA.

Are our assumptions correct? Is there an LDO you would suggest?

Thanks,
Nick
