DRV8302: Please help to review this schematic

Part Number: DRV8302

Hi experts,

I'm using DRV8302 for a sweeping robot . Could you please help to check my schematic? also , for OCP function, seem High side and low side MOS used the same Vds settings and all adjust through OC_ADJ pin.   right?

  • Hi Yuan,

Thanks for posting to the MD forum!

To answer your question, yes, OC_ADJ sets the trip voltage for overcurrent events in the HS and LS MOSFET by monitoring PVDD1 to SH_X for the high-side MOSFETs and SH_X to SL_X for the low-side MOSFETs.

To make your schematic easier to review, do you have a BOM or updated schematic that clearly lists the values of your resistors and capacitors? It is quite difficult and time consuming to read only the capacitor and 4-digit resistor codes.

  • Aaron,

Thanks for your reply. please see attached BOM and sch.

  • Aaron,

May I have your review comments?  I'll start PCB layout soon. thanks.

  • Hi Yuan,

Sorry for the late reply, it took some time to translate capacitor and resistor codes to meaningful values.

I checked the caps important to the DRV8302 functionality (BST_x, CP1-CP2, PVDD1, PVDD2, PVDD3, AVDD, DVDD, AGND, PGND, GND, SO1, SO2) and the values seem fine.

I checked many resistor / capacitors used in logic level inputs and setting selections (nFAULT, nOCTW, M_PWM, M_OC, GAIN, OC_CAL, DC_CAL, EN_GATE, etc.) seem fine in values.

The buck circuitry seems correct, although in the BOOSTXL-DRV8301EVM used a 33uH inductor rather than 220uH.

There seemed to be a little variation in pins that I am not too familiar with (RT_CLK, COMP, VSENSE) but I don't think that it will cause much concern in device performance.

If you like to check with the BOOSTXL-DRV8301EVM values directly, I have attached the PDF of the schematic in this reply.

Ensure in layout you route any necessary caps related to the gate driver as close as possible to the device (BST_x, PVDD, GVDD, AVDD, and CPH-CPL).BOOSTXL-DRV8301_SCH.PDF

  • Aaron,

Thanks for your review. it took me sometime to get my PCBA back. currently, I'm doing all kinds of test and met a big issue.  I did the short circuit test on my low side MOSFET when the board is driving my motor, this triger the protection, my MOSFET is fine, but DRV8302 was broken.  I've tested  3 board, all the same result, It can recover by changing a drv8302. I also did the same short circuit test on my high side  MOS FET, it work correctly without damage DRV8302.

is there ny chance you can help to review my PCB to locate this issue? thanks.

May I have your e-mail? so I can send my design to you .

  • Hi Yuan,

We will try to get you a reply by the end of the week.

Closing thread because it being resolved over email.
