DRV8353: Can this part be used to drive BDC motor?

Part Number: DRV8353

Hi experts,

My customer's motor is 24V/20A BDC, though the supply voltage is not very high but considering back EMF they would like to use higher voltage device, our BDC driver cannot meet their requirement. They prefer 100V device. However all of our 100V device is designed for 3 phase BLDC, such as DRV8353. I wondered is it possible to use DRV8353 to drive BDC motor? i mean use two phase to compose a H-bridge to drive BDC, and another phase to drive brake. Is this kind of application is possible?

Thank you!

John

  • John,

Yes this is possible, you can use the DRV8353 6x PWM mode if you still need deadtime between each high side and low side or independent PWM mode if you want complete control of each high/low side output without deadtime control or shoot through handshaking.
