Hi Bernardo,

Thank you for posting to the motor drivers forum.

I have a few questions:

1. Is there any physical damage to the driver (burn spots, smoke, etc.)?
2. Can you provide a picture of the damaged unit?
3. How are you performing the hot plugs and unplugs?

Hello Pablo,

1.- There is no physical damage in device.

2.- Attached photo of one damaged

3.- Hot plugs and unplugs are made through a connector. The 24V-GND_POW and 5V-GND are removed at the same connector.

Thank you for providing the image. We'll have to take a much closer look at your design to understand what is causing the damage to the IC during the hot plugs and unplugs. It is not obvious what may be causing the issue. Is the device not working even after resetting power to the driver? I just want to confirm that this issue was not caused by a fault latching and not being de-asserted.

Were you able to measure the current or voltage at the load or input supply of the IC during the hot plug or unplug? A potential cause of damage could be that due to a sudden rise in current. If the current is above 4.5A for less than 1.5µs, the driver will not protect itself from high currents. 

Another reason for the damage could be due to a short being created during the hot plug or unplug. I suggest looking through the board and making sure there are no potential shorts.

1.- Attached an image of the design.

2.- The device doesn´t work after reseting power

3.- The hot plug or unplug is with motor stopped, without current in load. No overvoltage in Supply of device or in load.

I would to be more fluent trying to solve the problem. I think using TI E2E support forums is quite slow.
