DRV10983Q1EVM: Consult the team DRV10983Q1 motor running current problem is very urgent to solve

Part Number: DRV10983Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV10983-Q1, DRV10975,

Please consult the team DRV10983Q1. During the motor operation, the motor was loaded into 1A current DRV10983Q1 and the protective stop was performed. What is the problem? While the chip provides data, is the continuous current able to work to 2A, is the chip unable to reach or is there something wrong with my setting?

Happy at work

  • Hi,

Thanks for posting your question in MD forum. The device should be able to support up to 2A continuous phase current. Are you measuring the phase current or the supply current? What is the Hardware current limit set to? Can you set the HW current limit to 2.8A (peak) and load the motor up to 2A (rms)? Make sure you measure the phase current of the motor.

    Regards,

    Vishnu.

  • I set it like this. I add friction to the output shaft to test the motor current. When the motor current reaches 1a, protection will appear. What's the reason? Wish you a happy job

  • Hi,

Thanks for the details. Sorry I have to ask you the same questions that were asked in the previous post as I did not get any response. Can you answer the below questions?

1.What is the Hardware current limit set to?

    2. Is 1A that you measured phase current or the supply current?

    Regards,

    Vishnu

  • Thank you for your reply. I see that the ammeter on the regulated power supply is protected. I have designed this chip as a built-in drive for a medical motor, while another customer is working on a engraving machine and grinding tools. I think it can work up to 2A current, which can meet the needs of customers. I hold the friction rubber skin to block the motor and get the maximum current value of the motor chip. After I added the resistance, the motor chip was immediately protected and did not reach 2A current.

  • Are you saying your regulated power supply is tripping current limit and not DRV10983-Q1? You mentioned that you added resistance. Can you provide more details on where this resistance was added? Is this 1A current the current drawn from your power supply or the motor phase current?

  • Hi,

Just wanted to follow-up with you to see if you got any updates.

  • Thank you for your greetings. I just returned to the company after a business trip these days.DRV10975 is about to be mass-produced with integrated brushless motors.DRV10983Q1 is still being improved in the coil winding, I will try to adjust the working current.May I ask whether TI company has a brushless motor integrated driver chip satisfying 5A current 36V/48V?You can recommend it to me to meet the needs of customers

  • Hello, DRV10983Q1, I found that the chip could not run under the condition of more than 25V voltage. Is it the GUI setting problem or the chip has been set to not allow the motor to run under the voltage of more than 25V?

  • Hi,

DRV10983-Q1 should be able to operate up to 28V Vcc. Can you tell us more on what happens above 25V? How did you conclude that the chip is not functional above 25V?

    Regards,

    Vishnu

  • Hello, I could work within 28V voltage without importing the drive Settings, but it happened after I imported the drive software, and it could only work within 25V. I don't know what caused it to fail to work within 28V voltage. Please guide me.Can you recommend a chip with 36V rated current?I cannot find a suitable chip in TI. Currently, I am experimenting with MPS half-bridge (5×5) 5A device. I am used to the convenient and quick debugging of TI chip and I hope TI has a suitable chip...

    greetings

  • Hi,

Can you tell us on what failure signature you are noticing above 25V? The information that you provided so far is not helping us debug the problem. IS the driver not spinning the motor above 25V? Is the device triggering some fault above this voltage?

    Regards,

    Vishnu.

  • Drv10983q1 can work at 28V voltage by default, but once it runs according to the set program, it can only run at 25V voltage, and the generator will stop when it continues to run at 28V voltage

  • I'm not sure what you mean by "Program". Is this the device EEPROM/config settings? Can you share this to us? And I didn't quite understand what you mean by "the generator will stop when it continues to run at 28V voltage". Didi you mean the motor will stop when it continues to run at 28V? Can you read the fault register (address 0x00) to know what fault is getting triggered when the supply voltage goes above 25V?

  • Hello, the program I'm talking about is the parameter setting of EEPROM set by GUI. I can't read out the fault parameters. If I try to put the GUI parameters set in the register, it will appear that the motor can't work at 28V, and it can work well at 25V. Ti's GUI is really convenient for setting motor operating parameters. The market needs more current and high voltage motor drivers.

  • Can you share the EEPROM parameter settings so that we can take a look to know more on why the device is failing above 25V? I believe you are using the DRV10983Q1EVM? If so then you can read the fault by looking at the display tab in the GUI as shown below. When the device triggers a fault, you should see a red LED glow indicating the lock code. Make sure auto-refresh is enabled.

  • Hi,

Just following up to see if you have any updates.

    Regards,

    Vishnu.
