DRV8835: PROBLEM IN CONTROLLING THE STEPPER MOTOR

Hey everyone,

Was going through the datasheet of the DRV8835 motor driver which says it can drive 2 DC motors or one stepper motor. I was able to control the DC motor but was not able to control the stepper motor with the same .I want it to control the stepper motor step-by-step.

Please provide me a sample code and wiring diagram for the same. For the prototyping i will be using Arduino UNO board and use some other AVR controller for the same.

Amardeep,

Stepper motor team don't offer the sample code beyond the EVM. In DRV8835 case, DRV8835EVM doesn't have a micro-controller. So, we don't have the sample code for DRV8835.

This application note gives "step sequence of stepper motor" reference and sample code based on a TI microcontroller.

Dear Wang,

The step sequence is not able to operate the motor correctly as there is some irregulations in rotation. Also please update how to reverse the direction of stepper as reversing the given step sequence doesnt reverse the rotation of motor.

Amardeep,

Please list all possible reasons and work on your code to address those issue. I cannot help on the code.

Don't understand it. Seems you have more experience on this situation, can you explain it? and we may find a way to fix it.

Sir,

I have connected the four pins on the driver (AIN1,AIN2,BIN1,BIN2) to the microcontroller and following are the given sequence to rotate the stepper motor.

PORTD.OUT = (0x09);
delays(2);
PORTD.OUT = (0x0C);
delay(2);
PORTD.OUT = (0x06);
delay(2);
PORTD.OUT = (0x03);
delay(2);

Stepper motor is perfectly rotate in one direction.

Now there is some problems, I listed below:

1. How i drive my stepper motor in reverse direction.

2. Sometime on reset, It reverse its direction on the same sequence.

What step frequency do you have? Can you slow down the step frequency (maybe make longer delay time) and check it again?
