DC-Link Capacitor PCB placement

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8301, CONTROLSUITE

Hi guys

I am finishing a E-Bike motor drive design. In my design, the DC-Link capacitor is composed by three electrolytic capacitors in order to compensate the maximum current ripple in the DC-Bus. The advantage is the usage of cheap capacitors sacrificing PCB area. In my system, the voltage source is a battery pack (40-58V) and maximum motor current is 30Arms.

Where do you recommend to place the DC-link capacitors, close as possible of each inverter leg (one capacitor per leg) or make capacitor bank between three-phase inverter and DCLink voltage source?

  • Hi Julio,

If you haven't done so, it is recommended to use the DRV8301 documentation as an example for the schematic and layout.

All documentation can be found in controlSuite.

The DRV8301-HC-C2-kit appears to be similar to your application.
