DRV10983-Q1: Motor current issue

Part Number: DRV10983-Q1

Hi Experts:

In the DRV10983-Q1, we can read the register of 0x04h to get the motor current in real time .

1) What's the current , the current go through the VCC or the phase current ?

2) What's the value , RMS or Peak value ?

3) How about the accuracy of the reading current ?

  • Hi Jason,

Thanks for posting your question in E2E.

    1. This current is the Motor phase current.

    2. RMS.

    3. We have seen that this is fairly accurate when the phase current sinusoidal signal is clean and constant peak, but is less accurate when the signal is less sinusoidal (noisy) if you are improperly spinning the motor. Thus it can only give you an estimate of what the amplitude of the motor phase current is and might not be accurate all the time.

    Please note that the equation in the datasheet is incorrect. Please use the following equation:(Current (A) = 3 × (MotorCurrent[10:0] – 1023) / 512).

    Regards,

    Vishnu
