CCS/BOOST-DRV8711: DRV8711

Part Number: BOOST-DRV8711
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8711

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

HI,

I am working on DRV8711 with Delfino79D and brushed DC motor, in TOFF register i set PWMMODE bit to 1 for Direct PWM signals from the MCU, and i ask if i can use internal indexer mode to control the rotational velocity or change the duty cycle applied on the motor, ask also if the internal indexer is used only for stepper motor types or not and what exactly it is used for !

  • Hello,

Input pins AINx and BINx have different functions in PWM mode and indexer mode.

So, if the customer uses the index mode, one bridge output current could follow the "STEP/AIN1" signal and regulate the output current at different micro-step current; but, another bridge current control is not independent. Both bridges' current follow the table 4 value.

  • Hi,

Ok, then i have two question in this subject.

    1. Can the internal indexer used for control the speed of brushed dc motor to avoid using external signals from MCU PWM modules and just configure it using SPI interface or it is only control the micro stepping of a stepper motor type !!

    2. In section 7.3.4 "current regulation" in the data sheet, what is the meaning of the following sentence:

    * The current through the motor windings is regulated by an adjustable fixed-off-time PWM current regulation
       circuit.

, and could TOFF value changes on PWM duty in case of using brushed DC or it only regulates the current through stepper motor types
