DRV2700: Ultrasonic motor control

Hello,

Customers are considering using the DRV2700 to control the ultrasonic motor.
In the DRV2700 datasheet 2, Applications, there is Piezo Positioning Actuators.
Does this also include the ultrasonic motor?

The voltage of the motor is 40Vrms. Is there any case where you controlled the ultrasonic motor by using two DRV2700?

Hello DDdoor,

I am double checking on the ultrasonic motor motor support and will get back to you as soon as I can but for a 40Vrms requirement, you could use a flyback converter as done with the DRV2700EVM-HV500.

Hello DDdoor,

What is the load of the motor for this application and what frequency do you need the DRV2700 to drive?

Also, on the 40Vrms, you actually do not need to use the flyback converter and can just run the DRV2700 with the internal boost.

Hello DDdoor,

I replied to your message but I want to give a generic recap here. The DRV2700 will not work for this application. When determining feasibility, you can look at the drive frequency and capacitance of the load and compare them with the datasheet. Figures 9, 10, 11, and 12 have a few example curves with different frequencies and capacitances.
