TPS22971: Power Good output failing

Part Number: TPS22971

I am using the TPS22971 load switch in a custom card we have designed. From testing 6 of these cards, 2 of them we have found to have faulty POWER GOOD outputs after some time testing; meaning the output was initially working fine and able to go high when it is outputting a proper VOUT, but then it no longer functions and remains low at 0V even while VOUT is good.

I have attached an image of how the part is being used in the schematic. I would appreciate any guidance on what can be done to avoid this issue from occurring, and if there any design flaws that are noticed?

Thank you,

Jake Sheppard

  • Hi Jake,

Do you have any scopeshots that describe this? PG is an open drain pin that responds to any faults in the system like thermal shutdown or if the device is disabled.

Is there a way you can isolate the device on your board and run a test with a nominal 100Ohm load? Monitor VIN, VOUT, PG and EN.

    Thanks,

    Shreyas
