BQ25792: Is that possible to test the fast charging of bq25792 using USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01 ?

Hi,

I am using bq25792 along with tps25750 USB Type C PD controller. I am planning to develop a power bank.

For the same I am planning to test Fast charging using this combination (tps25750 + bq25792). For the same I am using " USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01 evaluation module (EVM) ".

From the datasheet of BQ25792 I found that it support fast charging and from the datasheet I found this below sentence.

"To support fast charging using adjustable high voltage adapter (HVDCP), the device provides D+/D- handshake."

But when I checked the schematics of USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01 the USB lines of BQ25792 is unconnected as shown in the below image.

So, is that possible to check the Fast charging using USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01 evaluation module .

Hi there,

The BQ25792 can support fast charging. You can evaluate the HVDCP and D+/D- with a BQ25792EVM. However, the charger on USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01 is controlled by the TPS25750. It implements USB PD DPR but does not support D+D- handshaking.

May I know one more thing, Since the TPS25750 has the CC (Channel Configuration) lines which helps to communicate with the USB Type C adapters. And the TPS25750 and BQ25792 is interfaced with an I2C. Whether this combination supports the USB Type C fast charging?

Is that possible to achieve the USB Type C fast charging in BQ25792 with the help of TPS25750? Also, can I test the same in USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01?

The TPS25750 supports USB Type C Power Delivery up to 100 W (20 V 5 A). The BQ25792 supports 24 V Input Voltage with 3.3 A Input Current and 18.8 V Battery regulation with 5 A charge current. Therefore the input can support 20 V at 3.3 A or 66 W.
