TPS25982: Priority Hotswap Application

Part Number: TPS25982
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ASH, LM74700-Q1

Hi All,

We have an existing application that uses a TPS25982 as a standard E-Fuse and were wondering if was possible use two of these IC's as a priority muxing system like in:

https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tps24740.pdf?ts=1620803176886&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Fproduct%252FTPS24740

It is a simple application that feeds into a regulated system.

The requirements are:

  • Main Input 11V - 17V DC Supply
  • Aux Input 11V - 17V Battery Supply
  • Output of 11V - 17V at 8A - 12A
  • Ability to be used for hotswap and E-fuse to consolidate the amount of different components we have to have on hand

We understand that this application may require an external O-Ring diode so we are open to using a different component overall.

Thanks!

  • Hi Ash,

Welcome to E2E !!! Thanks for your continuous interest on products from Texas Instruments. According to the aforementioned specifications, priority power muxing can be implemented using TPS259824LNRGE or TPS259827LNRGE (if OVP is not required) in series with LM74700-Q1 Ideal Diode Controller along with an external N-Channel power MOSFET. This series combination of TPS25982 and LM74700 will provide reverse current blocking functionality, which is essential for priority power muxing. To achieve the priority power muxing functionality, it is required to implement this circuit as shown below by using a signal N-Channel MOSFET.

Please let us know if you need any more support on this.

  • Thanks Avishek!

We'll get to designing and get back in contact if we need any more help, thanks!
