TPS2373-4EVM-758: Startup Inrush Spike?

Part Number: TPS2373-4EVM-758

Hello,

In the EVM User Guide there is a large current spike on startup, is this real or is it some kind of measurement artifact? If real it seems like it would violate inrush requirements...

Thanks,

Michael

  • Hi Michael,

    Thank you for your question.

This spike is not anticipated to be seen in real use cases.

The engineer at that time hot plugged 48V at the PoE input from DC-DC power supply which is why you see the large spike from the input cap getting quickly charged. In a real PSE application, the IEEE spec has a limited slew rate that is nowhere near the hot plug slew rate which is why we don't expect a spike in real use cases. I believe this measurement was taken to showcase our advanced startup feature with 80ms delay.

    Best Regards,
