BQ25616: BQ25616JEVM: STAT blink frequence

Part Number: BQ25616

Hi

I have the same query like the following post.

https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management-group/power-management/f/power-management-forum/992831/bq25616-stat-pin-blinking-frequency/3669176?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=C_VBAT#3669176

The customer test the blink frequency 13.9HZ,

I want to know what's the C_VBAT charging and discharging?

Waiting for your reply.

Thanks

Star

  • Hello Star,

The most common reason STAT blinks is when there is no battery present and the charger cycles between the re-charge threshold because of the pin capacitance. Do they have the battery connected? Are there any faults being reported?

STAT will also blink when a fault occurs but it will happen at a fixed frequency of 1Hz.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hi Wyatt Keller

Thanks for your reply, the test waveform is disconnect the battery and enable CE pin, then the STAT blink frequency is 13.9HZ.

    Does it normal?

    Thanks

    Star

  • Hello Star,

If you enable charge with the battery disconnected the charge will oscillate between the charge voltage and the charge voltage - recharge threshold. This will cause the STAT pin to blink depending on the capacitance on VBAT.

Make sure to disable charge if the battery is disconnected.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
