BQ40Z60: BQ40Z60 over voltage polling cycle

Part Number: BQ40Z60

Hi,

This is Jesse from Dell power design team, one question regarding to cell over voltage behavior of BQ40Z60, what's the monitor cycle to judge cell over voltage? Is it real-time/instantaneous in the detection? or it has some regular polling cycle like it will check the voltage every 2s?

thank you!

  • Jesse,

The gauge protection events like COV are all FW based. meaning they use the 1seconds voltage values as reported the the firmware SBS.Voltage register to make the decision. In addition, the first time Voltage is reported about the threshold will start the counter at 0. So if your delay is set to 3 it might take 4.5 total seconds to trigger effectively.

This is because it might have crossed the threshold just after a gauge measurement, so it could take almost 1 second for the first reading, plus 3 addition counter increments.

Sleep will have a different voltage sample (5Sec), but in normal the gauge updates 4 250mS samples on a 1 sec timer

    Thanks,

    Eric Vos
