TPS61500: Driving 24W led?

Hi Team,

Can you please check and advise with following request?

The LED will be driven by 12V. We guess it will draw around 2A current. In this case, the LED power is 24W. Is this a problem for the TPS61500?

How to calculate the serial RC values connected in parallel to the capacitor in the RC network located at the Compensation pin (pin8) output of the Evaluation Module. What is the significance of this filter on the comp output?

Hi Furkan,

TPS61500 can support 12V/2A output. As for compensation network, normally, only capacitor is necessary for loop stability.

Can you please see the feedback and advise with questions?

- What are the max PWM frequencies and min duty-cycle for Digital and Analog dimming? (1kHz for digital dimming, 40 kHz for analog dimming is specified in the datasheet. However, digital dimming is also driven over 1kHz in the forums. We could not find the min duty-cycle calculation method according to the frequency.)
- There are more than one driving method in analog dimming mode. Which is more stable, which one is recommended? What is the difference?

Hi Furkan,

1kHz is the recommended maximum frequency, and higher frequency is also allowed but the accuracy may be worse. Since this is application dependent, it's better for customer to apply an EVM to test under the conditions of their actual application.

For the input of analog dimming, PWM input may cause EMI issue while analog input may be complicated(need external analog voltage reference, like DAC). The output performance of both methods has no difference.
