TPS22958: Is Output voltage control possible with PWM?

Part Number: TPS22958

Hi

Can I PWM the ON pin to control the output voltage?

If not is there a load switch available which I can use in such a way?

Thanks in Advance

  • Hi Nick,

Technically, the device will respond to a high and low signal as it is imparted on the ON pin but using this device here is not ideal. The major concern is that across our load switch portfolio, we have very few devices capable of switching fast enough to support a fast PWM signal which severely limits your frequency. Due to the soft start nature of the device, the time period has to be long enough that the triangle-like ramp up is effectively a square-like wave else your PWM duty calculations will be noticeably inaccurate.

Load switches are built to transmit DC power from input to output. Using these switches in a PWM application is not recommended but may be possible depending on your timing and voltage requirements

    Thanks,

    Shreyas

  • Hi,

Thank you for the quick reply.

This makes complete sense that these switches are not designed for PWM.

I will change the design to switch Mosfets directly.

Thank you very much for your help.
